Yingshan, Sichuan: The first pedestrian overpass officially put into use

In early October, the first pedestrian overpass in Yingshan County, Nanchong City, Sichuan Province, the Yingshan Middle School pedestrian overpass, was successfully completed and opened to the public. The bridge spans Furong Avenue in an east-west direction, completely improving the traffic pain points such as mixed traffic, traffic congestion, and unsafe crossing in the Yingshan Middle School area, and creating a safe and smooth travel environment for teachers, students, and surrounding residents.

The author visited the site and saw that the newly built pedestrian overpass has a simple, atmospheric and modern design. The bridge supporting facilities are complete, and pedestrian stairs and barrier free access facilities are constructed simultaneously, which can meet the diverse needs of citizens such as walking and non motorized vehicles crossing the street. The bridge deck is paved with permeable concrete and adorned with fresh and elegant blue and white colored patterns; The arc-shaped guardrails are arranged in a staggered manner, with some guardrails enclosed in an arched shape, creating a rich and aesthetically pleasing overall hierarchy. At the same time, the outer side of the bridge is equipped with LED promotional displays, landscape green belts, and night scene contour lighting, providing a refreshing view during the day and bright lights at night, becoming a new scenic line on the city roads.

According to the relevant person in charge of the County Housing and Urban Rural Development Bureau, the total length of the overpass is 67 meters, and it is a three span structure with three spans of 19 meters, 28 meters, and 16 meters respectively. The total width of the bridge deck is 7 meters, with a slope of 8% for the ramp and a slope of 1:2 for the staircase. The clearance height under the bridge exceeds 5.2 meters, fully meeting the road traffic standards. In terms of construction technology and materials, the upper part of the bridge is made of Q355C steel to create a steel box girder, which has the advantages of light weight, high structural strength, and high degree of industrial construction; The lower body is a cylindrical bridge pier, and the foundation adopts rock socketed cast-in-place pile technology. Some of the ladder piers are made of steel tube concrete piers, which are structurally stable, safe and durable. In addition, the bridge deck is equipped with a professional drainage system, and the exterior walls of the bridge are decorated with silver gray aluminum-plastic panels. The bridge deck pavement and railing design deeply integrate urban landscape concepts, achieving an organic unity of practicality, safety, and aesthetics.

The construction pace of this project is efficient and orderly. It officially started construction in March this year, completed the main structure construction in mid August, comprehensively promoted the completion of bridge deck paving, landscape supporting and other finishing projects in September, and simultaneously completed multiple safety inspection and acceptance work such as bridge static load test and railing horizontal thrust detection. It was officially put into operation in early October.

The construction of the pedestrian bridge is very convenient for the people. It is reported that after the overpass is put into use, the pedestrian traffic system on Furong Avenue has been further optimized and improved. By integrating the existing ground pedestrian crossings in the surrounding area, pedestrian and vehicle traffic can be separated in a three-dimensional manner, with each lane following its own path, completely avoiding the safety hazards of pedestrians crossing the traffic flow, effectively improving the efficiency of motor vehicle traffic, and alleviating traffic congestion in the area. Not only has it shortened the time for citizens to detour and wait across the street, greatly improving travel comfort, but it has also continuously improved the urban road traffic infrastructure system, polishing the quality of Yingshan's livable city.
