Crossing 73 years: Martyr 'Wen Laicheng' reunites with his family in Nanchong, Sichuan Province after resisting US aggression and aiding Korea
On September 20th, a touching scene was displayed in the Martyrs Cemetery located in Xishan Scenic Area, Nanchong City, Sichuan Province. The son of martyr Wen Laicheng, Wen Zhongwa, and grandson, who came from Wandongmao Village, Xijia Township, Xiangfen County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province, accompanied by relevant staff from the Nanchong Martyrs Memorial Facility Protection Center, came to the tomb of martyr "Wen Laicheng" to pay their respects.
It's been over 70 years, and this is the first time I've met my father, "Wen Zhongwa said. Her mother told her from a young age that when her father, Wen Laicheng, died in battle in Korea, he hadn't been born yet, but there was no information about where he was buried. As the only son of his father, he has searched and inquired countless times over the years, hoping to find his father's "habitat".
On July 11 this year, Nanchong Martyrs Memorial Facilities Protection Center found the family members of the martyr Wen Laicheng through the Tiktok Baby Home Platform and volunteers in Shanxi Province. According to the martyr's certificate, Wen Laicheng, male, Han nationality, born in June 1918 in Wandongmao Village, Xijia Township, Xiangfen County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province, was a deputy squad leader of the 1st Battalion of the 609th Regiment's Artillery Company. He sacrificed his life in the Korean War in August 1952.
Due to the underdeveloped information and non-standard accent at that time, the name of martyr Wen Laicheng was mistakenly engraved as "Wen Ancheng" on the tombstone, and his relatives were unable to find his whereabouts as a result. Except for the name not matching, all other information is consistent, "local staff said. Recently, after verification by relevant departments in both places," Wen'an Cheng "is Wen Laicheng, and the name on his tombstone has been changed to Wen Laicheng.
It is reported that there are 198 martyrs buried in the Nanchong Martyrs Cemetery, including 173 famous martyrs and 25 unknown martyrs. The pine and cypress trees in the park are evergreen. Over the years, a large number of units and citizens have spontaneously entered the Nanchong Martyrs Cemetery to carry out memorial activities, expressing their high respect and infinite grief for the martyrs in different ways.
Since the beginning of this year, the Nanchong Martyrs Cemetery has continued to carry out activities to search for the families of martyrs. Relevant departments and volunteers have worked tirelessly and tirelessly, and have successfully found relatives for six revolutionary martyrs so far. (Yi Qinghai, Tang Min)
