Spring Warmth for the Setting Sun: Love Builds a Better Nursing Home

On April 13, with the sun shining warmly and the spring air filled with warmth, in order to promote the traditional Chinese virtues of respecting, loving, and honoring the elderly, the Student Union of Nanchong No. 11 Middle School organized more than 40 student volunteers to visit the nursing home in Xiaolong Subdistrict, Gaoping District, to carry out a volunteer activity themed "Spring Warmth for the Setting Sun." The volunteers delivered care and warmth to the elderly through their actions, filling the nursing home with a sense of warmth and laughter.

At around 3 p.m., under the guidance of the nursing home staff, the volunteers quickly got to work, dividing tasks among themselves. Some cleaned the rooms and aired out the clothes for the elderly, while others accompanied the seniors to enjoy the sunshine and chat, listening to their stories from the past. One grandfather, a veteran of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, vividly recounted his experiences on the battlefield, captivating the students' full attention and earning their deep admiration. Some students also performed songs and other acts for the elderly. Among them, Grandma Ye, a retired teacher, expressed her best wishes to the children on behalf of the elderly—hoping that the students would study hard and all be admitted to their ideal universities.

During the activity, Aunt Yang from the nursing home remarked, "The arrival of the children invigorated the elderly for the entire afternoon. What the elderly need is not just material care, but more importantly, companionship and being listened to."

The Student Union President, Zhou Jun, said, "This activity has allowed us to deeply understand the meaning of 'respecting the elderly as if they were our own,' and has also made us more aware of the importance of cherishing the time we spend with our families."

This visit to the nursing home not only brought the warmth of spring to the elderly but also planted the seeds of caring for the elderly and serving the community in the hearts of the young students.
