As dawn's light gently unfurls the pages of books and dusk's hues steep the air with the scent of ink, the 30th World Book Day approaches. In celebration, Longmen Middle School in Nanchong, Sichuan, launched its 2025 "The Fragrance of Books Resounds Along the Jialing River, and the Cultural Heritage of Longmen Lives On" themed reading month series of activities. This year's reading month featured a unique "Teacher's Book Recommendation" initiative, which not only provided guidance from distinguished teachers but also invited students and teachers to jointly build a ladder of knowledge.

Teachers Lead the Way, Lighting the Path with Books

The teachers' book recommendations illuminated the educational firmament. At the launch ceremony, Liu Hailong, the secretary of the Youth League Committee, kicked off the book recommendation trend with "Dream of the Red Chamber." Teacher Jiao Yuchan, holding a yellowed copy of "The Poetry Collection of Du Fu," unveiled the life education code of the great poet; Teacher Pu Jing recommended "Su Dongpo," guiding students to revisit the life of Mr. Dongpo through the perspectives of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism.

Youth Debates, the Fragrance of Books in Contention

At the reading activity themed discussion session, Wei Yanxin from Class 8, Grade 1, said, "Reading is a window to broaden one's horizons. Through the written word, we can travel through time and space, experiencing the styles of different eras and the cultures of various regions." Zhou Liping also remarked, "Reading is a wonderful journey of self-discovery. As I turn the yellowed pages and am enveloped by the fragrance of ink, I encounter countless versions of myself. When I close the book, the words have already become a part of my being."

In addition to the concentrated book recommendations and themed discussions, the school organized classes to hold themed class meetings titled "The Beauty of Spring, the Perfect Time for Reading," deepening the reading activities. Through examples of famous people's reading habits, teachers guided students to understand the purpose of establishing "World Book Day," helping them truly grasp the essence and significance of reading for personal growth. The students actively learned the ways to "read good books," with methodological guidance ensuring that the wisdom of reading flowed continuously among them.

"True reading is about forging the wisdom of others into one's own strength," emphasized Wan Caixia, the chairperson of the Trade Union, at the preparatory meeting.
