Two Neighborhoods in Nanchong Selected as Sichuan's Fourth Batch of Historical and Cultural Blocks

Nanchong Daily News: On December 20th, reporters learned from the Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau that the provincial government recently issued the "Notice of the People's Government of Sichuan Province on the Verification and Announcement of the Fourth Batch of Historical and Cultural Blocks" (hereinafter referred to as the "Notice"), naming a total of 21 neighborhoods across the province as the fourth batch of historical and cultural blocks in Sichuan. The Chuanbei Executive Historical and Cultural Block in Shunqing District and the Liuhe Silk Factory Historical and Cultural Block in Gaoping District were successfully selected.

Historical and cultural blocks are an important part of the urban and rural historical and cultural protection and inheritance system. To better protect and inherit the excellent historical and cultural heritage of our province and promote the outstanding traditional culture of the Chinese nation, the provincial government has verified four batches of historical and cultural blocks (a total of 21 pieces) in accordance with the "Regulations on the Protection of Historical and Cultural Cities, Towns, and Villages" and other relevant provisions.

The "Notice" points out that localities and relevant departments (units) should fully recognize the importance and urgency of historical and cultural heritage protection work, coordinate the protection of historical and cultural heritage with urban and rural construction and development, and effectively strengthen the protection and management of historical and cultural blocks. The people's governments of cities (prefectures), counties (cities, districts) where historical and cultural blocks are located should legally carry out the preparation, approval, and implementation of protection plans for historical and cultural blocks.

According to the person in charge of the Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau, the "Sichuan Province Strengthening the Joint Protection Work Plan for Historical and Cultural Blocks and Historical Buildings" issued in August this year proposed that newly identified historical and cultural blocks must complete the preparation of protection plans within one year from the date of announcement.

"Our two newly identified neighborhoods will actively carry out special actions for the cultural display of historical and cultural blocks, promote the in-depth excavation and research interpretation of their historical, cultural, and intangible cultural resource values in the places where historical and cultural blocks are located, and tell good stories of historical culture and place names through physical exhibitions and digital presentations," the person in charge said. Support and encouragement will also be given to the two neighborhoods to carry out the revitalization of historical buildings while maintaining their external appearance and typical components. Through micro-renovations and other methods, historical buildings will be transformed into museums, cultural and creative centers, creative bases, etc., allowing historical buildings to better adapt to modern life and serve the people.
