Yingshan, Sichuan: Accelerating the renovation project of medium-sized irrigation areas to empower the construction of the "Tianfu Granary"

On December 27th, the construction site of Yanjing Irrigation District in Loufang Village, Dongsheng Town, Yingshan County, Nanchong City, Sichuan Province was bustling with activity. Between the ditches and canals, several excavators extended their long arms to repair the channels, mortar transport vehicles shuttled back and forth, and the roar of machinery intertwined with the busy figures of workers. Everyone performed their duties and worked together, playing the "song of progress" for project construction.

This is a medium-sized irrigation area continuation and modernization project promoted by our county, which has obvious advantages compared to the previous decentralized construction mode. Deng Ke, the relevant person in charge of the project owner unit Yingshan Pengju Natural Resources Investment Co., Ltd., introduced that the construction content of this comprehensive promotion includes the renovation of open and closed canal systems, pipeline transformation, tunnel cleaning, and the construction of canal system buildings. By comprehensively coordinating the allocation of machinery, the connection of construction periods, and the allocation of construction personnel, the overall efficiency of the project has been greatly improved.

At present, the construction of this project in the tea tray irrigation area is also in full swing. It is reported that the total investment for the renovation of the two major irrigation areas, Yanjing and Chapan, is 110 million yuan, with a construction period of six months. The core project includes the construction of more than 74 kilometers of backbone canal systems and more than 36 kilometers of final canal systems, covering multiple towns and villages such as Dongsheng, Luoshi, and Wanglonghu. After completion, it can irrigate over 50000 acres of farmland.

Since the project started in November, we have been working hard to meet the deadline and catch up with the schedule, "Deng Ke said. In order to accelerate the construction pace, the project party invests more than 30 sets of mechanical equipment every day and organizes nearly 200 workers to go to more than 10 work sites for synchronous construction. The project adopts a "assembly line" operation mode, where the channel excavation is carried out, the channel pouring and supporting facility construction are followed up to achieve seamless connection between each link. As of December 21st, more than 30 kilometers of channel surface cleaning and section repair have been completed, and more than 10 kilometers of channel anti-seepage lining have been completed.

It is reported that the salt well and tea pan irrigation areas were built in the 1950s, but the canal system has been in disrepair, severely damaged, and the effective irrigation efficiency has significantly decreased, which can no longer meet the water demand of agricultural parks. Every year, a large amount of manpower and material resources are invested to carry out maintenance work such as dredging, plugging, and water lifting. This not only has high costs and poor results, but also makes it difficult to ensure agricultural production, which has been strongly reflected by the public. Since the beginning of this year, the Xingfu Reservoir Management Bureau in Yingshan County has actively planned to apply for the application of integrated irrigation area renewal and modernization projects. Through competitive project approval, the Tea Plate and Salt Well irrigation areas have successfully entered the list of 24 designated irrigation areas in the province, and finally decided to implement the project, realizing the long cherished wish of the vast number of cadres and masses for many years.

Yingshan County is a traditional agricultural county with relatively scarce water resources. The efficient utilization of every drop of water is crucial. "The renovation of the two major irrigation areas, namely, tea tray and salt well, is a practical project that benefits the people and benefits the future." Chen Qionghua, director of the County Happiness Reservoir Authority, said that after the completion of the project, it will effectively improve the regional irrigation conditions, restore and expand the effective irrigation area, further improve the quality of cultivated land, and lay a solid foundation for firmly holding the bottom line of food safety production.
