Delivering Water to Homes: Solving the Drinking Water Problem for Over a Thousand Mountainous Households
On May 9th, on the mountain paths of Xinguang Village in Damao Township, Yingshan County, Nanchong City, Sichuan Province, two water sprinklers from the Yingshan County Road Administration slowly drove in, bringing "timely rain" to the villagers who had been short of water for nearly a month.
"There are two pigs in the house, and the well has been pumped dry. We can only carry water from the river at the foot of the mountain, which takes an hour to go back and forth..." Villager Li Maoqiong frankly told the reporter that since the beginning of spring, the lack of rainfall has led to water shortages, and the wells have also dried up. Daily drinking water needs to be carried back and forth for several kilometers on foot, which is a heavy burden on life.
Li Yongping, the village head, introduced that Xinguang Village is located on the mountain, and more than 250 households of villagers at home rely on water supply from the town and underground well water for life. The village's water shortage problem emerged in early April, and with the intensification of the drought, the town's water supply has also become increasingly insufficient. The ponds originally used for irrigation have been "picked dry," and both human and livestock drinking water face a severe challenge. "Most of the young people have gone out to work, and the elderly and children are mostly left in the village. Carrying water is very strenuous for them," he said.
After learning about the villagers' difficulties, the Yingshan County Road Administration quickly took action, modified the road - maintenance water sprinklers into "water - delivery vehicles," and rushed to Xinguang Village to deliver drinking water to each household. Villagers holding buckets and basins orderly collected water. When the clear tap water flowed into the containers, many people could not hide their excitement. "The water is delivered to our doorstep, and we don't have to worry about cooking and feeding pigs!" Fang Bixian's words expressed the villagers' feelings. Statistics show that the two water sprinklers transported a total of 16 tons of domestic water that day, covering the main residential points of the whole village.
"Since the beginning of this year, we have cumulatively delivered more than 100 tons of water to water - deficient townships such as Damao and Anhua, benefiting more than 1,000 households of villagers," said a person in charge of the Yingshan County Road Administration. Given the current unrelenting high - temperature drought, the bureau will continue to increase the intensity of water delivery, regularly distribute water according to villagers' needs, and continue until the drought is alleviated.
