Qingming Festival: Honoring Martyrs and Inheriting National Spirit

"During the Qingming season, drizzling rain falls like tears on the mourners' hearts." In this season of honoring the deceased and remembering the martyrs, recently, Nanchong Film Industry Vocational College organized the "Qingming Festival: Honoring Martyrs and Inheriting National Spirit" 2025 Qingming Martyrs' Cemetery Visitation Themed Party and Youth League Day Activity. Party member representatives, Young Marxist Program trainees, and Youth League member representatives gathered at the Nanchong West Hill Martyrs' Cemetery with a sense of reverence and solemnity to jointly commemorate the great achievements of revolutionary martyrs, inherit the red genealogy, and promote the revolutionary spirit.

The event began in a solemn and dignified atmosphere. All teachers and students stood in neat rows, and the stirring "March of the Volunteers" was played, with the singing echoing through the cemetery, expressing their boundless love for the motherland and profound respect for the martyrs.

A moment of silence was observed throughout the venue to pay the deepest condolences to the martyrs who bravely sacrificed their lives for the country and the people. At this moment, the cemetery was utterly silent, with only the gentle breeze rustling through the pine and cypress trees, as if narrating the heroic deeds of the martyrs.

Subsequently, Liang Jun, the head of the Student Affairs Department, led all Party members in  Revisiting their Join the Party oath. Facing the Party flag, the members solemnly swore, with resounding vows reaffirming their ideals and beliefs and their commitment to their mission.

Yang Yuxuan, an active member seeking Youth League membership, spoke. He shared his aspiration for the Youth League and his experiences of actively aligning himself with the League organization in his daily studies and life. He expressed his firm determination to inherit the spirit of the martyrs, study hard, and serve the motherland, winning warm applause from the teachers and students present.

Comrade He Weidong, a member of the Party Committee and Vice President of the college, emphasized the significance of the Qingming cemetery visitation activity in his speech. He encouraged all teachers and students to remember history, cherish the present, and integrate the spirit of revolutionary martyrs into their studies and lives. He pointed out that the revolutionary martyrs made great sacrifices for national independence and the liberation of the people. Contemporary youth should inherit their will, strive hard, and contribute to the realization of the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Teachers and students, holding flowers, approached the martyrs' graves in an orderly manner with reverence and gently laid the flowers in their hands, expressing their endless grief and admiration for the martyrs. During the flower-laying process, the students silently commemorated the heroic deeds of the martyrs and remembered everything they had done for the country and the nation.

Youth League members, with reverence, approached the martyrs' graves one by one. They held tissues and carefully cleaned the surroundings of the graves and wiped the dust off the tombstones, restoring the luster to the names of the heroes. Then, the youths faced the tombstones and bowed deeply, paying their highest respects. They also quietly gazed at the heroic deeds, with images of the glorious years flashing through their minds, bringing tears to their eyes and a silent resolution to carry on the martyrs' will and strive for the country and the people.

In front of the tombstone of Jiang Feifei, a Nanchong native and martyr, Secretary Li Songbai recounted his life story to the Young Marxist Program trainees and Youth League representatives: As the company commander of the Xichang Forest Fire Brigade, he heroically sacrificed his life to protect the lives and property of the people in the firefighting battle in 2019 and was posthumously awarded "Touching China 2019 Person of the Year." Secretary Li called on the students of Nanchong Film Industry Vocational College to inherit the martyr's spirit of "loyalty to the Party, strict discipline, bravery in the face of danger, and dedication to the people." He urged them to use the heroes as a mirror to strengthen their faith, to temper strong abilities in their professional studies, and to courageously take on the mission of youth in the journey of the times, allowing the spirit of the heroes to shine in the new era.

After the cemetery visitation activity, the Young Marxist Program trainees and Youth League representatives visited the Nanchong Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Hall. The precious cultural relics, historical photographs, and heroic deeds inside the hall vividly showcased Nanchong's red history. Through the interpreters' explanations of the history of the struggle in the Sichuan-Shaanxi revolutionary base and the viewing of the documentary "Fiery and Loyal Souls," the young students deeply felt the hard-won establishment of the red regime in an immersive experience. When stopping at the exhibition area of the life stories of Nanchong native martyrs, the students wrote in the guestbook, "Inherit the red genealogy, strive to be new people of the times," turning their admiration into firm beliefs and conscious actions.

This Qingming cemetery visitation themed Party and Youth League day activity was not only a profound remembrance of revolutionary martyrs but also a vivid ideological and political education practice class. By extending the ideological and political classroom to the red base and immersively feeling the history and understanding the revolutionary spirit, teachers and students profoundly grasped the connotation of the revolutionary spirit. They all expressed that they would take this activity as an opportunity to transform their admiration for the martyrs into the driving force for progress, study hard, be proactive, and through the ideological and political baptism of inheriting the red genealogy and promoting the revolutionary spirit, encourage young students to deepen their patriotic feelings, take on the mission of the times, and grow into new people of the times who will rejuvenate the nation.
