Spanning 46 years, Chongqing born martyr Tan Shengquan embarks on his journey back to his hometown

On September 22nd, the funeral ceremony for the ashes of martyr Tan Shengquan was held at Xishan Cemetery in Nanchong City. The Xishan Cemetery in Nanchong City is solemn with pine and cypress trees, and the mournful music returns softly. Zeng Lang, director of the Nanchong Martyrs Cemetery Service Center, attended and covered the national flag of the People's Republic of China on the martyr's urn.

According to the service center of Nanchong Martyrs Cemetery, martyr Tan Shengquan was born on February 25, 1959, in Shuangqing Commune, Shizhu County, Chongqing. He enlisted in January 1979 and participated in the self-defense counterattack against Vietnam with the army. In battle, he was brave and tenacious, not afraid of sacrifice, and carried forward the revolutionary spirit of continuous combat. He always obeyed orders and commands, successfully completed various combat tasks assigned by superiors, and was once awarded the company commendation. After the end of the self-defense counterattack, he unfortunately sacrificed himself on January 7, 1980, at the age of only 20, and his ashes have been kept in the Xishan Cemetery.

Due to the long history and lack of information, the families of martyrs have never stopped searching for their loved ones for decades. They have posted information online and traveled extensively to verify their whereabouts, but have never been able to find any news. In recent years, the retired military affairs department in Nanchong has continued to carry out activities to search for the families of martyrs, and has made the "search for the families of martyrs" a key task. After 46 years of wind and rain, spanning hundreds of kilometers of mountains and seas, this Chongqing born hero finally embarked on the road of returning home. After the farewell ceremony, the martyr's ashes will be escorted back to their hometown in Chongqing by a dedicated person. The local area will hold a welcoming and burial ceremony, fulfilling the martyr's family's nearly half century long longing and long cherished wish.
