Xichong, Sichuan: opening of organic industry innovation and Development Conference

On June 26, the 2025 Sichuan Nanchong (Xichong) organic industry innovation and development conference with the theme of "organic, better choice" opened in Xichong County. Nearly 300 domestic and foreign guests and scholars from Germany, South Korea, India and other countries and regions gathered in Xichong to discuss the development plan of organic industry and effectively promote the construction of Xichong as "the first organic County in China".

It is understood that the conference was hosted by Nanchong Municipal People's government and jointly organized by the Organization Department of Nanchong municipal Party committee (the talent Office of Nanchong municipal Party committee), Nanchong agricultural and rural Bureau, Nanchong market supervision and Administration Bureau, Xichong County People's government, international organic agriculture Asian Alliance (IFOAM - Asia) and Fengliang Industrial Group Co., Ltd. The leaders, experts, scholars, business elites, industry leaders and other domestic and foreign guests discussed the situation and problems faced by the development of the organic industry by means of keynote speeches and interactive exchanges, felt the current situation of organic agriculture, explored solutions, and jointly sought the future development of the organic industry.

At the opening meeting, Matthew John, chairman of the international organic agriculture Asian Union, said in his speech that Xichong County adheres to holding the organic industry innovation and development conference regularly, which fully reflects its firm commitment to the pursuit of organic excellence and sustainable development. Over the past 22 years, Xichong has shown remarkable achievements in long-term deep cultivation of organic agriculture, actively adopted innovative farming technologies, protected biodiversity, improved soil health, and promoted local economic growth. In the following conference activities, we conducted in-depth discussions, participated in special meetings, carried out collaborative exchanges, stimulated new ideas, consolidated the concept of organic innovation, and witnessed the excellent practice of promoting sustainable agricultural development in Xichong. At the same time, Xichong is expected to continue to make breakthroughs and innovations in low-carbon solutions and climate resilience through its partnership with the Asian Council of the international organic alliance.

It is reported that since Xichong became attached to organic in 2003 and started the construction of "Western China organic food base county" in 2008, successive county Party committees and governments have adhered to "holding the ecological flag, taking the green road and playing the organic card", always adhered to the development path of scale, standardization and branding, took the development of green organic industry as the internal requirement of cultivating new productive forces, and deeply practiced the new development concept of innovation, coordination, green, openness and sharing. Closely adhering to the strategic goal of "ecological garden · organic Xichong", we will accelerate the creation of a "global organic demonstration zone" and form an organic industrial system dominated by organic grain and oil, organic sweet potato, organic citrus and organic peach. Build a large-scale organic agricultural production base of 280000 mu, 170000 Mu and 110 varieties of agricultural products have passed the organic certification, and build a full chain industrial system covering policy support, ecological protection, industrial development, quality safety and marketing. It has successively won the first batch of national organic product certification demonstration counties, national organic food production base construction demonstration counties, national agricultural product quality and safety counties and other national honors, setting a benchmark in the national organic agriculture development map.

The permanent venue of the Asia organic industry innovation and development summit was settled in Xichong in 2019. This year's organic industry innovation and development conference is the sixth international organic industry event held in Xichong. The participants agreed that this conference is not only a grand banquet to gather wisdom and consensus and inspire future development, but also a good platform to deepen exchanges and cooperation and create win-win development. Xichong's organic practice has not only injected new vitality into its own economic development, but also provided a replicable and replicable Xichong wisdom and Xichong scheme for the whole country to explore the development path of organic agriculture and promote the transformation and upgrading of agricultural industry.
